It's not typical to see 40-50 killer whales in one harbor, and I feel so lucky I got to be there for it.

Katie went in March 2013

Year Round

Uh, you get to see whales (there are 23 different kinds in Iceland). And that's super rad.

Unfortunately since whales are wild animals and all, you may or may not see them on your tour. Katie was particularly lucky when she went.

Most companies start around $75.00/€66.00 per person without transport to the boat, but there are many tour options in Reykjavik as well as in most major coastal cities around Iceland.

What we hate...

What we love...

We had a little delay in our tour for whatever reason, but the harbor provided me with some random photogenic things while I waited.

Once on the boat, we sailed around for quite a while and saw a lot of this. Seagulls and ocean. No whales.

And then finally...

I was feeling pretty satisfied seeing 4-5 in the distance by the time the tour was coming to a close, but when we got back to Grundarfjörður, the whole harbor was swarmed with orcas!
